Treating Dry Skin the Easy Way

Deborah Morris just came back from skiarea and was filling in her friend Cindy Oliver about the miserable problems she had with dry and cracked skin out in the cold. Cindy told her that she had the same problem at Cerkno, Slovenia. An experienced skiier laid out the three tricks to keep your skin in good condition in the cold. She will use that on her trip to Villaroger, France in the next few weeks.

Winter is the roughest time for our skin. A good many people battle itchy, cracked, irritated, flaking and painful skin. Heading out to the nearest store to pick up the most advertised healing lotions and creams to help get rid of the discomfort and heal the cracks for moments of relief. The bad news is most victims are overlooking the vital and cheap ways to not only get a major improvement with your dry, chapped and cracked skin, but also help prevent it.

Bodies are made up mostly of water. For some reason, in the shor, cold months of the year, we don’t consider the need to make sure that we are drinking enough water. In summer, when we are sweating and doing yard work, we know we need to drink lots of water to replace the water as we lost. In the winter the frigid air does much the same to our body. It withdraws that fluid right out of our bodies. This then dries out our skin, leaving it flaking and itchy. Making sure that you are still drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day will help you win the fight over your dry and cracked skin. Try this out for the next two weeks and you will undoubtedly see a definite difference in your skin in just a few days.

Staying with the vital importance of moisture, a reliable moisturizing lotion is also a good idea. Buy one that fits for your skin type so that you arent going to end up with oily skin. I recommend a cream instead of a lotion in the cold, because a cream is thicker and more protective of the skin. It is also a good idea to spend a minute to read the label. The cream or lotion that you use in the summer probably won’t be appropriate in the winter. Stay away from a cream or lotion with alcohol in the first few ingredients, as alcohol will actually dry out your skin.

Make sure to dress the right way in the winter. Before you laugh at this and scratch your head over what clothing has to do with battling dry skin, consider it carefully. The more bare areas of skin that you have increases the opportunity that the cold air has to suck the moisture. It is also a good idea to try to layer your clothes and let that inner layer be clothes that are made of cotton. Cotton will let you skin breathe, will keep you warm and wont irritate your skin.

By heeding these three easy methods, you will not only get relief from that annoying dry skin, but you will prevent your skin from becoming dry. Drinking plenty of fluids, the correct moisturizing cream and appropriate clothing and you will have moist, healthy and glowing skin all over you.
